August meeting, August 20, 2011

For the August meeting of the Redlands Area Democratic Club, our speaker was Dr. Dorene Isenberg, past chair of the Economics Department of the University of Redlands. Her topic was

“Our Walk on the Wild Side: Neo-liberalism Unleashed”

Our current economic woes are not simply the result of recent economic policies “gone bad”. Where we are and why we’re here result from a change in ideology and global economic position and thinking that occurred close to 40 years ago. Dr. Isenberg addressed some of the crucial changes that signaled how we were altering our path and explained why and how these changes have been instrumental in producing the Great Recession and our non-existent recovery.

This event has already occurred, and if you missed it you can still get some sense of the presentation by checking the report of the presentation on the local web news outlet the Loma Linda Patch.

Saturday, March 19, 2011 Meeting: The Corporate Attack on America

"We must close union offices, confiscate their money and put their leaders in prison. We must reduce workers salaries and take away their right to strike"
-- Adolf Hitler, May 2, 1933
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"The Corporate Attack on America:
from Citizens United to Wisconsin"
Our speaker for the March 19 meeting is John Smith, Region 16 director for the California Democratic Party, addressing Wisconsin governor Scott Walker and his success at busting public unions and imposing his radical agenda on the people of the Badger state.

Smith is also a consultant with Common Cause and recently worked on  the Rally to Restore Democracy against the Koch Brothers in Rancho Mirage.

The club will offer a number of programs this year on the theme of corporations  vs. government for and by the people.

Please come early if you want to order lunch. We will be making every effort to start the meetings promptly.

Our club meets at Denny's at 1 pm every third Saturday of the month at the I-10 and Alabama location.

-- Sally and Dianne, program co-chairs
